IDEX 3D Printers’ Different Print Modes Unveiled

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing or rapid prototyping, is a procedure in which materials are added layer by layer to develop a physical object from a 3D CAD model. You can use a single extruder 3D printer or a dual extruder 3D printer. Recently, most people have preferred dual extruder 3D printers because of their rate of productivity and cost-effectiveness.

When we mention large format dual extruder 3D printers, and you know about them, you might ask which type of dual extruder we are talking about. Yes, there are two types of dual extruder 3D printers, one being dependent on dual extruder 3D printers where the two extruders are attached as they move to print. On the other hand, we have an independent Dual Extruder 3D printer; most people call it an IEDX printer. These printers have two individual extruders, or we can call them hot-ends, that can move independently along the X-axis.

Multi extruder 3D printer or IDEX can produce multiple printouts simultaneously by building layer by layer a thermoplastic material to 3D objects from a given 3D CAD model. The two extruder movements can create multi-colour and multi-material models. The capability of this technology is indispensable; its potential is unthinkable, making it an excellent asset for businesses aiming for the highest productivity level. It offers four types of print modes. The modes include;

·         Duplication or copy mode allows the extruder head to copy the master model, which is sliced for one extruder head. Then the other head mimics the movements and slicing parameters of the main extruder in parallel to sync and build a copy of the other model.

·         Mirror or symmetric mode allows the extruder head to copy and mirror the master model, which is sliced for one extruder head. Then the other head mimics the movements and slicing parameters of the main extruder in parallel to sync and create a mirror of the other model.

·         Backup or stand-alone mode allows you to choose any extruder for your print with the required material and colour, even when one extruder breaks down.

·         The dual print mode allows you to choose a dual colour or material mode. In dual colour mode, you can produce a print with various shades, producing a model with different colours. On the other hand, the dual material mode allows you to print with more than one material at once, including soluble support material.
