Benefits of Dual Extrusion 3D Printer

The benefits of 3D printing technology are many as the 3D printer is gaining popularity daily. The use of extrusion 3D printers is increasing as it can be found in many industries and homesteads. The latest version of this machine is the dual extrusion 3D printer, it might be the first time one comes across this extrusion 3D printer machine, but it is of essence to say that it is versatile and dependable. Dual extrusion 3D printing is a 3D printing process involving multiple filaments. These two different extruders can print different colors of filaments to bring the final printed object to a satisfactory quality.

The two extruders can work in unison or independently. In an independent dual extruder 3D printer (IDEX), the extruders either work independently in mirror mode or duplicate mode. Duplicate is where the object is printed, and the exact copy is printed simultaneously on the other side. In mirror mode, the object is printed, and its inverse is simultaneously produced. On the other hand, the dependent dual 3D printer is where the extruders stay together and move in the same direction while printing. A dual extrusion 3D printer machine has numerous benefits that come along with it, as can be seen below.

Speedy printing: in dual extrusion 3D printing, two extruders can work on an object separately. This reduces the time taken for 3D printing hence optimizing production. Furthermore, printing the other parts of the printed object with other colors, different material properties, or support structures is possible. One does not have to wait long before seeing the final product.

Support: the dual extrusion 3D printer can combine a standard material with easy dissolvable support material. This is useful as the support materials such as PVA and HIPS are removed, leaving the printed object very smooth with no marks on it.

Strength: dual extrusion 3D printing allows users to reinforce the primary printing material with something more rigid. For instance, one nozzle could print most parts of the object with the primary material like PLA, while the other nozzle prints only specific areas of supporting material such as carbon fiber-based filament. Through this, the final print can be much more robust.

Colors: if one is interested in aesthetics, then the dual extrusion printer is the solution. This printer can print in two or more colors. There are some prints like educational models, which might require different colors in various parts.

Generally, this new dual extruder 3D printer is incredibly beneficial, and anyone can enjoy the 3D printing technology experience at their convenience.
